The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Sever yourselves from such a man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he? (Isaiah 2:11,22).
The snow storm that swept through states up the east coast over the weekend dumped record breaking snow, caused flooding, and confused meteorologists who expected much less than what actually fell in some areas. Appropriately named Jonas, the storm sent a strong message as it shut down cities and states. Jonas is translated “Jonah” in the English language and its significance may have been lost on most. As the Nation’s Capitol was being buried under heavy snow, many remain blind to the fact that, like Jonah, this country/world is heading in the wrong direction spiritually. People are swiftly running away from God and turning to others or to themselves for answers. We are slowly sinking to the depths of rational thinking and moral guidance all based on a Webster’s style definition of rationality and morality.
Nations are forming alliances to respond to threats and environmental concerns. Others are forming alliances to strengthen the threat they pose to their enemies. In some cases, unholy alliances have been and continue to be formed. In all this, they look to democracy, military might, politics, and strong personalities to lead the world to safety and to fix economic crises.
Yet, where is the church in all this? Oh yes, we are either too busy fighting each other or taking political sides with those who neither acknowledge nor turn to God for guidance. The church is looking more and more like the world and for some reason many church leaders can’t figure out why church attendance and membership is going down. The world is looking in to see a church very much unlike themselves but insist on telling them how to live their lives. If it wasn’t for Jesus’ promise that “He will build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” I would be losing my confidence in its existence for years to come. Still, this should be alarming to many of us because the true church may only be a remnant of those who show up to worship. Are you part of that remnant?
What do we get when we vote according to our emotions, which are often driven by what we hear and not necessarily the facts. Unfortunately, we live in a world where knowledge is pushed and not sought and those who scream the loudest and throw the most money get their way. It would be wise for us to learn the lesson of ancient Israel when they requested to have a king reign over them. God’s response to Samuel is to give them their king, for they were not rejecting Samuel but “they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). We too have been putting our faith in men, only to be disappointed. When will the church begin to heed Paul’s warning? “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? (2 Corinthians 6:14-16). Or that we should “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of yourmind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).
We are to be in the world but not of the world yet the church has largely failed in this. Why do we continue to look to politicians and military leaders as the solution to our most pressing problems? Why do we put our hopes in science and not the Creator who reveals to us the information regarding that which He has created? I dare say because the apostasy of this age is great and becoming greater still. We are entering a period of great change and the church has and will lend itself to it. Political alliance has become more important that the spiritual and many churches have fallen pray to the biases of the flesh and the promises of flattering lips. Are you part of the true church and a remnant of the faithful? Stand up and glorify God without shame! Are you offended by this post? examine yourself!
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up” (James 4:10).
God thunders marvelously with His voice;
He does great things which we cannot comprehend.
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’;
Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength (Job 37:5-6, NKJV)
“Have you entered the treasury of snow?” (Job 38:22)
First I heard them say two feet of snow then it changed to 12-18 inches, then up to 30 inches. I’m not saying the meteorologist don’t know what they are talking about but there is something happening that is causing a state of confusion. So far it’s been blamed on El Nino; so was the rains, then the warm Christmas week. Seems El Nino has been a bad boy this season, or has it? Could it be that these scientists and meteorologists are not really sure what is causing the changes in the weather and the shift in weather patterns?
Well, they do have one other excuse; “Mother Nature”, they say, “is unpredictable”. Tell me, who is this mother nature you are referring to? I thought God was in control of nature! Isn’t that what He told Job when he said to him, “Who is this who darkens counsel
by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me”. We have achieved much and have made much progress in the way of knowledge. However, we ascribe too much of what we have learned to our own “ingenuity” and not to the one Who is knowledge! We have come to know much about the world that is created for us and much about ourselves. However, what we now know is a remnant of the fall, flawed by sin as is our knowledge, or what we call wisdom. You want wisdom, fear the Lord. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” but “my people perish for lack of knowledge” because they have trusted in themselves and forgotten the God who created all things.
So, as the Lord cracks the door of the treasury of the snow, we get a glimpse of His power. Cities shut down and streets are closed. Some have lost electricity and sadly, their lives. Even the great machines we have built struggle to keep up with its accumulation. Yet, it’s as if nothing have left His treasury; his stockpile is not diminished in any way and ten thousand feet of snow would have done no great harm to His supply. Yet, two feet has halted life for so many. Mother nature you say?! No, Almighty God has spoken a word!
The wind has itself caused much stir but it is the blessing of it that has not received much respect. For the wind has kept the roofs free from the weight of the snow and stopped most from daring to continue their journey. The wind has kept the trees from taking hold of more snow than they can bare. There branching no longer threaten power lines and roofs. Their boughs are spared from the strain that so often bring them down and life rejoice at its mercy.
The snow too, has slowed many and inconvenienced others. Some complain about what they could be doing if it wasn’t snowing. Businesses worry about the lost revenue and the government is spending much resources to keep the streets safe. Yet, what is truly lost in all of this? For a city that gets no rest is at last resting; the Sabbath lost to us is again alive and God, Who ordained it, gives us rest in it. God knows what it is that we truly need and gives it without favoritism. Our tired bodies grow week and reckless from the busyness that pervades us and steals away our peace. Within today’s snow storm is a gift of time; to rest, to recover, to spend with family and friends. Time to spend in prayer, study, and glorify God and thank him for his mercy.
Yes, this is mercy! You don’t see it, I know. Especially since lives have been lost and others may have sustained injuries. God ordains what is good, for all good things are from God; “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, from the Father of lights”. God is and gives life, sin brought death. “It is not God’s will that any should perish” so ascribe to the Lord the honor due His name.
You may call this looking at the glass half full, or optimism. Well, it really doesn’t matter what we call it. What matters is the truth in it. We too often miss God’s blessings because we are too busy staring at the snow. Recognize that the time to stare from a warm room, is a gift after all.
Behold, these are the ungodly, who are always at ease; they increase in riches. Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence. For all day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning. If I had said, “I will speak thus,” Behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of Your children. When I thought how to understand this, it was too painful for me—Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end (Psalm 73:12-17, NKJV).
I am sure I am not the only one who feels beaten down and ran over from time-to-time. As if we will never really understand our purpose, or if there is even one. I go through seasons where everything seems so clear then out of no where a dense fog rolls in and then I feel lost.
I look around and everyone seems to have it together. They seem so sure and content with the way life if progressing and their smiles tell a story I may not understand. Their speech reveals the longing my heart feels for such clarity and assurance. Comfort seems to be a fugitive in my world; running and hiding from me to take refuge in everyone else.
Then, when I go to the house of worship the heavens seem to open and my purpose is once again clear and very present. I am called to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness….but what is that exactly? Don’t answer that! It may be very different for you than it is for me. And stop trying to control and direct how I worship Him! Stop telling me how to give God the glory due His name!
The joy I feel in serving the Lord is just what I long for; it is my purpose to worship and glorify Him in all things and I feel it so strongly when I am serving in His house. I am replenished, reassured, and revitalized in my service to God. His love fills me and spills out so much more to those closet to me. Knowing I am called to serve brings meaning that affects all that I do in the natural world. My love is made more perfect and my heart is more transparent. My home is more pleasant and my sleep is so much sweeter.
In my service to God; when I am actively engaged in the church, my obligations to my family become that much more important. When I feel His love, I love so much more perfectly; as perfect as one can in this fallen world. My dedication to the Lord is also a reflection of my dedication to my family because He calls me to a more perfect union. He pushes me to love more unselfishly and to be a kingdom example to my family and friends. Time spent with God and in service to Him is time spent learning to love more, to be more humble, patient, kind, sacrificial, and merciful.
Do you desire a more perfect friend, husband, or colleague? Leave me to love, serve, and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
“So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. And on her forehead a name was written:
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.
I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement” (Revelation 17:3-6, NKJV).
I saw in my dream last night a great deception taking place in the most disgusting and vile way. The estranged sister is flirting with and seducing her siblings to commit abominable acts with her. She seeks to drag her estranged family, those who left her long ago because of her abominations, into her harlotry and adultery. She has gone out to those who perverts the truth and justice. She has been in bed with the enemy and those who seek her destruction. Now she wants to bring others down to the pit with her.
I saw her lips dripping with seduction and her loins untamed by her desires. With her lies she draws them in and with her words she flatters them. Her face is not to be desired, her eyes are deep and dark; in them truth is lost. Yet many have taken hold of her and have committed atrocities; incestuous sins are held against them but their greatest threat is their covenant with their adulteress sister.
She says to them, “come and join with me, let us make up for the time that we have lost”. Her intensions are not pure and neither is her loins, for she has sold herself to many and have laid bare her skirt to the strangers on her street. She is full of abominations and diseases. You will surely die who go in to her, for her invitation is not one of partnership but one of dominion, slavery, and death.
With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips she seduced him (Proverbs 7:21).
The 95 Theses has been shredded and the reformation is turned back on itself. Rome has once again spread her wings to embrace any that will take hold of her; and so they have. Many have already accepted their sisters advances and have fallen to her seductions. They lead many with doctrines of devils and to devils they now sell their souls. Your confession is worthless; it is a delusional thing to think their is one who sits in the place of Christ; our only Mediator and Advocate.
Yes, I saw in my dream last night the reality of the present but with repercussions of the past. How we have been deceived who take the hand of their estranged sister to commit abominable acts against the Most High. She is vile and filled with corruption. Her insides are filled with the remnants of her abominable unions.
Stay away from her and keep your distance. She is a liar and her lips speak deceptions. Stay true to your first love; Christ our Savior. So “incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding so that you may be delivered from the immoral woman.” From the seductress who “flatters with her words, who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God”.
