Who Is Lord Over Us?

Lion's DenHelp, Lord, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things, who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?” “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” The wicked prowls on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men. (Psalm 12 1-5, 8).

Have you found yourself saying “Help, Lord” more frequently of late? Well, you are not alone! Verse 8 of Psalm 12 says that when vileness – highly offensive, unpleasant, or objectionable behavior – is exalted (placed at a high or powerful level; held in high regard), the wicked will prowl on every side. Look at where society is today and tell me if you think we have heeded this warning?  (more…)

Faith in Prayer

” I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill” (Psalm 3:4).

Do you pray knowing that God hears your prayer and has already given a response? One of David’s many gifts was his ability to pray with confidence that the Lord had already answered him. The Psalms can appear to contradict itself but what we see as contradictions are the writers’ confidence that God hears and has answered their prayers.

A number of years ago, Psalm 3 brought me much comfort during a time when it felt like the whole world was against me. I prayed this Psalm with great desperation and anguish as I sought the Lord and his deliverance from life’s piercing arrows. There are times when the troubles of this life seem to have no end; time when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.  (more…)
