God of Love, God of Mercy

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psalm 103:8).

The world seems to think words like this and others that talk about the mercy and love of God makes Him week; inept even. We are so caught up in the notion of “manliness” and science that the thought of a God of love is farfetched for many and even more ridiculous for some in the scientific community.  Well, the reality of God is neither farfetched nor ridiculous. what is ridiculous is belief in a theory that cannot be proven or that love signifies weakness.

Some may challenge believers to prove that God exists but we don’t have to; He already has and will again very soon. We walk by faith, filled with the Holy Spirit of God and saved by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

It’s time to stop acting as if life is no more than a Sci-Fi movie that offers variations of thrills, chills, fright, and other temporary emotional stimulations for its duration, going completely black when the movie ends. All life is created and sustained by an almighty, all powerful, living God who, in His great love tolerates us and wants to give us an eternal home with Him. He has given us His word and His word tells us that life exists outside the body we currently see in the mirror.  Our spirit lives on, and some go directly into His presence for eternity when life leaves this mortal body. All will bow before Him, in this life or the next, but not all will dwell with Him.  Clear lines have been drawn and we are give the freedom to choose where we will make our stand.

I give thanks that my God, our God, is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.  If He had been a God of pure wrath I would not be here today. Had his love been unsteady, as mine and so many of us, His patience might have ran out early in our sinful lives.  But He doesn’t change and His word is true, which is a far cry from anything any of us can claim.  I give thanks that His ways are higher than mine; that He, in His great mercies forgives me and chose to cleanse this flawed body to qualify me for the presence of His Holy Spirit.

“Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all His benefits” (Psalm 103:2).

    AMEN! And very well said!
It’s truly important as believers in the body of Christ to recognize the importance of God’s unrelenting mercy and love for us his beloved children. The almighty always equips us with just the right message to stir those who are truly curious about Jesus, especially when his existence comes into question. God wants hearts willing to serve him for his purpose and glory. Additionally, He’s a welcoming God who meet every individual where they are. In those moments where the movie goes black is where God is teaching us to rely solely on Him by and we will see the light the way it is meant to be seen. As stated in Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” And I thank God his never ending mercies.
