I am exceedingly angry with the [Gentile] nations at ease;
For I was a little angry,
And they helped—but with evil intent.”  (Zechariah 1:15)

How quick we are to castigate another country or people; to call them immoral and evil. We develop programs and organizations to judge the ethics and determine whether they are violating our man-made human rights laws, and rightly so. The question is, what about God’s laws. Are the nations evaluating how much or how little we are obeying His laws? Is any nation above the Laws of the Almighty?

We have determined to set our own standards of righteousness, simply because of the influence some nations have over the other. God is not impressed, He says we “are all an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags”  or Dung (Isaiah 64:6). We love to praise ourselves and point out how good we are. We stand on the shoulders of others while complaining that they are not standing tall enough. How dare we laud our filthy wealth over the needy and wag our nasty fingers in their faces for not being more like us.

It has been a long-standing trend for conquering nations to treat a conquered people as dogs and roaches; to crush them under their feet simply because they can. Though we have discovered much in this last century, the age of discovery started a long time ago. God began scattering people at the tower of babel and many of them journeyed long distances to discover new lands. He also scattered the tribes of Israel and to this day there have been no confirmation that all 12 tribes have been

found. Still, we know that they all suffer persecution because so it is written that if they were to sin against God continually, they would be scattered from the land and the sword would chase then wherever they went (Deuteronomy 28).

Voyages and “discoveries” which began in the latter 1400s re-introduced many tribes, cultures, and races. Men journeyed under the guise of bringing the gospel; I’m sure many were sincere but with it came greed, hatred, gluttony, death, and all forms of evil. The new world was built over the blood of their victims and on the backs of the less educated. those fleeing persecution brought a worse kind of persecution and cruelty with them.

Recent DNA studies of some American Indians revealed a connection between some tribes and Jews. For many, it confirmed long-standing arguments that the Indians were of the lost tribes of Israel. I still have much to learn about this topic but what is not lost on me is the possibility that these being of the Jewish diaspora cannot be ruled out. If that is the case we have another example of how the gentile [nations] went too far in their punishment of God’s people and how they “helped with evil intent“.

For you, I have a reminder. “[You] will eat the fruit of [your] own way” (Proverbs 1:31a). God has not forgotten how you mistreated those you were to simply correct. Their blood testifies against you from the ground and their souls writhe in anguish for your failure to teach them of their wayward faiths. You built great monuments to celebrate your great accomplishments and throw bones at the workers as though they were dogs. You boast about your IQ as if the knowledge of evil is something to brag about. You take pride in your strength in battle as if shedding blood is a righteous cause.

“Because you have disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you” Proverbs 1:25-27).

Still, the outstretched arm of God beckons us to turn. To turn from our evils ways and to a more glorious promise. To repent of our sins and turn from the lure of the serpent. To take hold of Christ and the spotless garments prepared for us.

Today, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Do not neglect the outstretched arm of God! Repent!
