“The everlasting God, the Lord,
Isaiah 40:28b-29
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength”.
There may be times when we or individuals we are talking to will roll our eyes when scripture like the one above is quoted. This is especially true when it seems the weight of the world is pressing down on us, and there doesn’t seem to be an apparent answer. God seems distant and uninterested in our problems. We may not have even given God any thought or associated him with our problems until His words are quoted to us.
The Prophet Isaiah says that “[God] gives power to the week” (Isaiah 40:29). This applies to all of us. We all grow weary physically and mentally. We tire of repetitive activities that seem to have little to no return. We are easily triggered when worn down, and our response to people and situations may lack thought. It is easy to make catastrophic decisions that affect us and those around us. This is why we must draw our strength from God. He gives us strength, but we must ask in faith and be open to receive it. Nothing we do in our own strength will sustain us, and the enemy of our souls loves to see us try.
When we are weary of our circumstance, we may fail to see how God is allowing us to bless others we encounter. We may even fail to see how we are making a difference and glorifying Him through it. The enemy wants to prevent us from seeing the fruit of our labor, so we become discouraged and seek a different direction. It is important that we seek the Lord in prayer–that we draw our strength from Him. The scriptures that follow those above is well-known.
“Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31).
God’s promises are very real and will never fail. Those who call upon the Lord will be renewed and refreshed to continue the journey. We must call upon Him in good times and bad, when there is calm and in the storm. God has given us his word and is true to it. We must examine ourselves and our circumstances to make sure our response to these circumstances is in its proper context. It is essential that if there is an issue, we identify it and seek God’s help to resolve or overcome it. We cannot overcome a challenge if we take aim at the wrong issue, and a reactive posture will cause us to do just that. If you find yourself weary today, look closely at the matter you are weary of. It may be that the cause, though related, is something different. Finally, once you’ve identified it, seek the Lord in prayer, listen carefully, and walk in obedience to where He leads.
