The Watchman's Diary

W​e are often an anxious generation! We become anxious at new beginnings, transitions, and when something comes to an end. Why is that? I believe that the main reason for our anxiety is that we do not know the future. Moreover, our negative past encounters have lasting effects our how we approach future endeavors. Our excitement about new opportunities are often sprinkled with some anxiety for the same reason—we do not know how it will turn out.

Nations are now grappling with the impact of the Corona Virus and trying to prepare for the potential economic fallout. Lawmakers, public figures, and media personalities around the world constantly refer to past pandemics as points of reference for how to respond to the current crisis. Governing authorities are busy working on laws to protect people, businesses, and organizations all the while with an eye toward eradicating the virus. How and when will this end?

God alone knows the end of everything! He knows how this pandemic will end and the impact it will have on countries around the world. God alone can heal the infected person, and He alone can protect us from contracting the virus. God gives us wisdom to protect ourselves and others in times like this, and so we should. We should listed to those in authority and take the recommended steps to limit the spread of the virus. Yet, our hope is in God alone, and we should look to Him alone for deliverance. 

This is an opportunity for us to pay more attention to prayer and fasting; to make it a lifestyle instead of something we do at random times in our lives. This is an opportunity for us to stop looking to man—to judges and elected officials—to save us and fill our needs. The Apostle Paul tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything—but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6).

God told us ahead of time that these things would happen. Yeshua (Jesus) said,”People with fight each other, nations will fight each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various parts of the world” (Matthew 24:7, CJB). Still, we have hope that God is faithful and will fulfill His word to deliver those who call on Him. Revelation 21 tells us of a new beginning without sickness, death, or any form of sorrow. We may not know what tomorrow will bring and how the Corona Virus will affect us, but we know how the age will end and the promise that awaits us. Keep your eyes on Yeshua and keep trusting in God. Deliverance awaits those who wait upon the Lord.
