God’s Daily Gift to Humanity

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Matthew 6:25-27

Each day we experience is a gift of life from God, no matter what it brings. This gift is for our benefit and the benefit of others with whom we may share some, or all, of today. For us, that life is a gift of God for us to use for His glory; for others in that He is glorified when we reflect His love and grace for them. For the unbeliever it is a gift of time to repent and to gain redemption through Jesus. For believers, it is to continue seeking and walking according to His will and to be salt and light in an increasingly ungodly world.

It is easy for us to get distracted in the issues of life that we face, often consumed with worry about tomorrow. Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34). I know that is easier said, especially when we have spiritual forces that are constantly attacking. God has equipped us with everything to overcome the enemy and to endure through persecution. Additionally, He is ready and able to help us when we feel overwhelmed; we only need to ask in faith.

We must be careful not to allow our expectations determine our response to how God chooses to answer our prayers. It is easy for us to design in our mind, how God will respond to our prayers. This opens the door for bitterness and disappointment to grow, if it doesn’t happen how we envisioned.  In doing so we place ourselves above God, thinking that we know best because we see in our minds the solution we seek.

It is easy to spend an entire day busying ourselves with the issues of life, yet accomplishing nothing. Jesus said, “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). We can become so focused on solving or escaping our problems that we miss the very answers we seek from God. It is difficult to see clearly when we are too focused on self.

Therefore, begin each day seeking Gods direction to know how we should use this gift. Do not focus on the answer—what it will be and how it will come. For then you may focus too narrowly on Gods perfect will for you, and for those He will bless through you. Each day is a gift of love from God. Recognize and cherish it but share it willingly. Love restrained has little impact on the receiver, for love is meant to flow freely, just like the river of life that flows from Gods throne.
