All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and He rules over the nations
Psalms 22:27-28
There is a lot happening in the world today! For some, there is enough going on in the home to occupy your attention over world events. Still, we are all affected by global events, especially those our nation is directly involved with. Many in the Western church are busy arguing about the rapture, the Antichrist, and the tribulation. YouTube prophets are relishing their streaming views and the number of experts on end times events seems to be growing daily. How much of what is happening a distraction, and are we falling for all of it? Where should our focus be?
The Psalmist declared that “the kingdom is the LORD’s, and He rules over the nations” (Psalms 22:28). Since God rules over the nations, why do we spend so much time focusing on human authority? Yes, pay attention to what is happening, but make human beings the gaze, not the center of our attention. Followers of Christ must keep our eyes on the One who is the “author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Since God is in control, we should view world events as controlled chaos. Though, what may seem chaotic to us is simply God’s sovereign plan coming together on a cosmic scale.
Elsewhere, the Psalmist asked, “Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing” (Psalm 2:1). We may be blind to the many plots and schemes world leaders and power brokers are concocting, but God sees everything. “He who sits in the heavens laughs” (Psalms 2:4).
Yes, there is a lot happening in the world today. If you believe that “The LORD is my Shepherd” (Psalms 23:1) you will not fear what is coming. If you believe that “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17) you will not be concerned with the one forming the weapon. We like to quote these powerful truths from scripture, but do we walk confidently in them. If you are convinced that these are signs of Christs return, do you stand and look up, knowing your salvation is near (Luke 21:28). Why despair of what is happening when you know Who is coming? Instead, lift your soul to the Lord (Psalms, 25:1) because the Lord is about to begin His reign (Revelation 11:17).
